Special diets

Mums give their babies special diets for different  reasons. If you need to avoid a particular food or ingredient we can provide you with up-to-date lists of all our baby foods and drinks showing those that are suitable for gluten-free, vegetarian, milk-free and egg-free diets. Please call our tinytums Careline.

It’s best to consult your GP or health visitor if you think your baby needs a special diet.

Vegetarian Weaning
A well  planned vegetarian diet can be good for adults because it’s high in fibre, but your baby needs a low-fibre, high-energy diet. For babies, fat is an important source of energy to maintain healthy growth and development (link to key nutrients section)Vegetables contain phytates, which can reduce the absorption of minerals such as iron, zinc and copper, but giving foods and drinks which contain Vitamin C will help. Because iron is so important for babies, all Heinz and Farley’s baby foods have a little added iron (except for our organic products which are not allowed to have added iron). Our baby juices contain added Vitamin C.

If you’re weaning your baby onto a vegan diet, it can be harder to supply all the nutrients and energy they need. You should seek guidance from your doctor or health visitor.

Gluten-free diets for babies with Coeliac Disease
Wheat, rye, barley and oats contain a protein called gluten. A small number of people develop a condition called Coeliac Disease which means they can’t digest gluten. If you have a family history of Coeliac Disease, you shouldn’t give your baby foods containing gluten until they are at least six months old. If your baby does need to avoid gluten, you can still give a varied diet including those Heinz and Farley’s baby foods which are suitable. Call our Careline number for a list of our products that are suitable for a gluten-free diet.

For the most up-to-date information on our products please call our Tinytums Careline team on 0800 212 991.
