Out and about

You can end up with loads of stuff to lug around when you've got a baby.
Kate, 35, says having a baby didn’t stop her getting out and about

“I’m a real on the go person and one thing I was determined of was not to let having a baby slow me down. You can end up with loads of stuff to lug around when you’ve got a baby, it’s really surprising how much you think you need to do even the simplest of trips.

“So I had a grab bag always at the ready. This had a change of clothes in (always, always take a change of clothes!), a little cool bag for milk, feeding stuff, jars of food, bowls and spoons and things, nappies and toys.  On a good day I could be out of the house in less than ten minutes.

“There’s some really neat gadgets around too. I got hold of a really smart feeding bowl which has a kind of compartment around the bowl, like a thermos flask. You can just spoon in some food and fill the special compartment up with boiling water. The heat from the water heats up the food, it’s very good. I also got a little ice pack to put in the cooler bottle.

You've got to be bold, fearless and be brave.
“The last top tip is to keep a couple of small, easy to carry toys or books as distractions. You shouldn’t be put off getting out there, kids love to go swimming and you need to be able to jump on the bus and go shopping!  I’ve got a good light buggy, I made sure I got one which I could fold and unfold with one hand, so I could hold my baby and handle the buggy at the same time. You’ve got to be bold, be fearless and be brave about asking for things, if you need a jug of boiling water to warm up milk or something just ask, most people are really nice and helpful!”
